TYRONE Williams is determined to build on last season's breakthrough and help Harriers have a successful season.

The 21-year-old is the Aggborough outfit's longest serving player, having came through the academy as a 17-year-old.

But his emergence into the first team has been a long time coming, with the young defender sent out on loan several times.

A spell at Hednesford Town in the National North last season was his making.

Williams seized the opportunity and became a regular last season, playing 25 times and catching the eye Harriers officials.

He was recalled in January and after making the first team squad, he started in the 3-1 win over Macclesfield and has not looked back since then.

He said: "There were times in the past when I did wonder what was going on but the loans were an opportunity to play and learn and every manager at Harriers has always reassured me I was in their plans.

"I just put got my head down, stayed focused and worked hard.

"I think this is a big season for me and I want to take the opportunity at the club with both hands.

"Playing for Hednesford last season was really important, I grew as a player, got stronger and learned a lot."

The youngster certainly impressed in pre-season at right back but had to deputise behind Jared Hodgkiss in the opening three games.

But with the former Forest Green man sidelined with a foot injury against Chorley, Williams has a chance to impress manager John Eustace, starting against Nuneaton.

Despite naturally being a defender, Williams has demonstrated an enthusiasm to attack as part of manager John Eustace's attacking ethos.

Williams added: "The manager pushes us to the max all the time and it's been great.

"I know I have played in a number of positions but I am really enjoying playing at right back.

"Jared is a really good player but all I can do play as well as I can and see if I can keep my place in the team."

Harriers hope to have experienced centre back Wayne Thomas back from injury for tomorrow's home clash against Stalybridge Celtic (3pm ko).

Jordan Tunnicliffe was set to have a knock picked up against Nuneaton assessed.

Kidderminster are fourth in the table with two wins, one draw and a defeat and will be hoping to record a first three points at Aggborough this season.

They tackle a Celtic side who have lost three games in a row after winning on the opening day of the season.

They have brought in George Willis and Graham Kelly on-loan from Sheffield United.
