SAMURAI Judo Club held their orange belt and below championships.

In the red belt boys’ section, the club started with bronzes for Zach Main, Mateo Harrison and Harrison Flello.

Harley White was outstanding, winning all three of his contests by maximum points to take the gold. Lucas Byng also did well, taking the bronze.

In the boys’ higher grades, Dan Hickinbottom powered to the final but had to settle for a silver after defeat.

Stuey Main and Martin Allen both continue to make good progress and both won bronzes in their categories against much more experienced players.

In the girls’ lower grades, Allannah Martin and Katy Jennings were in the same category, which promised to be rather interesting. Jennings did well to reach the final and despite giving Martin a run for her money, the latter emerged triumphant.

Rhea Turner reached her first final, with a particularly good maximum point throw in her semi-final against an Aylesbury girl, but her opponent in the decider was just too good and she had to settle for silver.

Maddi Haywood added a bronze in the next weight category above that, the last of the girls’ lower grade groups.

Cerys Jones was the only Samurai girl in the higher grades and fought through to the final to take gold.
