COOKLEY suffered a seven-wicket defeat at the hands of Worcester in Worcestershire County League Division One on Saturday.

Skipper Paul Thomas finally won a toss and chose to bat, top scoring with 39.

Jaimen Rudd (28), Adam Nicholls (30) and Jat Dhadwal (32) all got in but failed to go on and a disappointing 189 all out was never enough.

They are now just one point off the relegation places and play Pedmore, who are that one point, behind Saturday.

The seconds were too strong for Avoncroft.

Cookley chose to bat first and made 313-8 thanks to Russ Whitehouse, who was run out on 99, Mitch Taylor (75) and Matty Goode (62). Avoncroft fell over a 100 runs short with Mike Wood the pick of the bowlers with 3-30.

The seconds are up to seventh in the table.

The thirds saw off Five Ways Old Edwardians.

Cookley legend Stuey Nicholls had a man-of-the-match performance, scoring 113 and taking 4-13. Runs also for club chairman Phil Dixon (56), as well as a superb 26-ball 56 from Liam Platt.

Brian Davies took 4-23.
