JAMIE Willets admits that memories of his FA Vase final appearance at Wembley will live with him forever — even if it will be a few weeks before it really sinks in.

The 23-year-old former Stourport Swifts defender was in the Hereford side that lost 4-1 to Morpeth Town last Sunday.

“It’s probably one of those occasions you can only appreciate three or four weeks down the line,” he said.

“When you are out there it’s just another game, the nerves went once you’d taken your first touch. But it’s been a momentous day for the club and also for the players.”

It was also a memorable day for the 20,000 Hereford fans who travelled to Wembley.

Willets added: “I had massive goose pimples hearing the Hereford fans when we walked out on the pitch — to have that kind of reception when you are playing at step nine in English football was amazing.

"Even after the final whistle they were still there to clap us off, but they have been fantastic for us all season.

“We’ve had a day at Wembley and that’s been beyond our wildest dreams.

"It would have been nice to win the Vase but if you’d have said we’d win the treble and have a day at Wembley then I think every single Hereford fan would have bitten your hand off.

“On the day, Morpeth were the better team, but looking back I can say that I’ve played at the best stadium in the world and no-one can ever take that away from me.”

After an open-top bus tour of Hereford on Monday, Willets was back at work as a teacher at Bewdley Secondary School and he was expecting the worst.

“I know a lot of the kids will have watched the game so they probably can’t wait to give me some stick.” he admitted.
