JOHN McMahon shone for Wyre Forest Swimming Club at the Worcestershire County Championships.

McMahon bagged a Championship bronze medal in the 100m butterfly in a close final in Wolverhampton, which saw the top three swimmers going under one minute.

That made McMahon the third fastest swimmer in the county across the age groups in this event.

This was the second weekend of Championships, with each swimmer entering the 10/11yrs, 12yrs, 13yrs, 14yrs, 15yrs or 16/over age categories.

In events of 100 metre or less, the fastest eight swimmers in the heats for each age group progressed to final for that age group, with the top three being awarded medals.

With events over 100m, medals are awarded to those swimming the three fastest times in each age group.

Head coach Lucy Walters said: “A massive well done to everyone who competed over this weekend.

“Swimmers gained new personal best times, regional times, medals and valuable experience to help carry them forward with their goals.

“Reaching the County Championships is a great testament to all their hard work.”
