STOURPORT Ladies closed the gap on leaders Sutton to one point after winning a top of the table clash in the Investec Women’s Conference West.

The Wyre Forest side moved up to second after defeating their pacesetting local rivals 2-1.

They had to come from behind in this match and two goals by Sarah Cavendish gave them the win.

Her first goal was scored from a penalty stroke in the 17th minute and her second, which turned out to be the winner, followed a few minutes later.

This weekend they entertain Firebrands firsts under the floodlights at The Kingsway (6pm start).

In Midland League Division Two Stourport seconds came away from their visit to Nottingham with a point from their game against Nottingham University.

The game started well, with Stourport forcing a few shots on goal, and came close when they hit the post in the first half.

Unfortunately, despite some excellent attacking play, they could not find the goal needed as the game ended 0-0.

The fourths put in a sensational performance when they travelled to take on Worcester thirds in Worcestershire Division Two and won 5-0.

Georgia Jeynes-Cupper bagged a hat-trick, while Kate Bailey and Roohi Parsons were also on target.

The thirds edged out Pershore 1-0, while the fifths saw off Bournville seconds with goals for Rosie Connolly and Georgia Lees.

The men’s first team saw their game called off against Leek.

The seconds edged out Leek 3-2 with goals for Jamie Styles, David Knott and Fergus Anderson.

In Midlands Division One, the thirds saw off Warwick 4-1. The fifths drew 1-1 with Stratford.
