STOURPORT Swifts bowed out of lost interest in this season’s FA Vase after suffering a 3-1 reverse to Black Country Rangers, writes Nick Pullen.
Swifts boss Mark Phillips blamed two individual defensive errors at the back for their exit against a side from a lower down the football pyramid league level.
Phillips said: “Make no mistake, we wanted to go through and make some money for the club — but we didn’t create as much as I would have liked.
“We were 1-0 down at half time and I still thought we had a good chance of going through.
“But they got a corner and scored from it with a free header.
“Suddenly you’re left chasing the game and what we all talked about at half time went out of the window.
“We pulled a goal back, although it was a somewhat fortuitous own goal and then pushed forward, only to get caught on the break.
“It was one of those games where you’re on a hiding to nothing.
“Black Country were a good side with some decent players even though I thought we had the better of the game.”
Swifts look to bounce back when they host Loughborough University on Saturday (3pm kick-off) at Walshes Meadow in the Midland Football League.
Phillips insists there will be no wholesale changes but added: “We might have to tweak a few things.”
However, Phillips will be missing experienced player Jamie Hyde who is suspended.
