WET bank holiday weather wrecked Kidderminster Victoria’s chances of winning all their 50 overs matches this season, writes Nick Pullen.

The Chester Road club made it eight straight wins on Saturday with a 74 run success over Walmley.

But rain ruined their attempts to make it nine on Monday when they had rivals Wolverhampton on the ropes.

Monday’s match had already been reduced to a 21 overs affair.

But that didn’t stop Kidderminster from compiling a huge total of 196-6.

Skipper Matt Pardoe with 28 and Nathan Round, who eventually reached 68 off just 45 balls, got Kidderminster’s innings off to a flying start with a first wicket stand of 72.

In-form Michael Hill then helped the runs flow further by adding 48.

But a resumption of rain prevented Wolverhampton from starting their reply.

Matt Pardoe admitted: “It was raining for the last three overs of our innings, so we knew the chances of getting back out again were going to be very remote.”

Michael Hill was again the batsman in form against Walmley when scoring 118 not out.

He helped Kidderminster reach a massive 283-6, with Neil Pinner plundering a further 65 for good measure.

Walmley were then restricted to 209-9 in reply and Pardoe claimed: “Walmley did well to score as many as they did because they were always behind the asking rate.

"We probably let them score 30 more than they should have.

“Michael Hill batted beautifully.

"He made sure he got in first and then upped the pace, hitting boundaries all over the place."

Kidderminster travel to second-placed Berkswell on Saturday before completing the season at home to likely champions Shrewsbury with Pardoe keen to make sure his side remain unbeaten at the win-lose format.

Meanwhile, the seconds suffered a 72-run defeat at the hands of Walmley on Saturday.

KVCC won the toss and put their rivals into bat, then saw them make 237-6, despite four wickets for Mark Mansell.

Opener Henry Right struck 52 but Kidderminster were dismissed for 165.

Monday’s game at Wolverhampton was rained off.
