Kidderminster Carolians 15, Stourbridge Lions 29

KIDDERMINSTER Carolians paid the price for a sloppy second half as they suffered a derby defeat in Midlands Division Two West (North).

The Marlpool Lane side had edged the first half and enjoyed a narrow 10-8 lead but paid the price for some wayward play as Lions turned the game on its head with two converted tries in the second period.

KCs had been under the cosh from the start but after absorbing Stourbridge's pressure, they took a 5-0 lead when scrum half Chris Pinner set up Josh Winfield for a try.

Stourbridge had already missed several penalties and Kidderminster made them pay with some well put together moves.

A forwards drive provided clean ball for centre Rhys Pritchard to cut back inside and although he was held up over the line, the resulting five metre scrum allowed flyhalf Andy McLellan to crashe over the line and double the host's advantage to 10-0.

Stuart Doolittle's try halved the home side's lead.

The momentum was with the home side but despite being well on top in the latter stages of the first half they found themselves pegged back to 10-8 when Stour's Sam Wilson, converted a penalty right on the half-time whistle.

But Stourbridge made the better start after the break and Fred Brooks touched down for a converted effort as KCs slipped 15-10 behind.

With the hosts struggling a lineouts, Lions were able to ease the pressure and extended their lead to 22-10 when Sam Robinson scored and Ben Trinham added the extras.

A fourth try ended KCs' hopes of getting back into the game, despite a second scored for Winfield.

KCs, who have not won for five league games, go to Veseyans on Saturday (2.15pm ko).
