WHEN the authorities at St Anne’s Church decided the high summer season would be the best time to close off Bewdley to restore their roof, do you remember being told how businesses would be unaffected and every effort made to keep disruption to a minimum?

Well, guess what, our loathsome council has decided its contribution to this effort should be to ban traffic from Bewdley Bridge entering Load Street or accessing the Dog Lane car park and medical centre. There is no reason for them to do this; entrance to the car park is not affected by the works on the church roof, but ‘our’ caring council has decided this is an excellent idea – and also sees the opportunity of making some money from motorists who might use their common sense and drive straight on to the car park in the normal way.

They have hijacked the CCTV system to assist with this process.

No doubt when this latest scam finally ends around Christmas time, we will be faced with the joyous spectacle of our councillors standing outside more empty premises, shedding their crocodile tears and promising us some meaningless, vacuous ‘initiative’ to boost local trade in Bewdley.

We will at least know where to place the blame, fairly and squarely.
