health services ONCE again, we are fighting for the retention of a hospital service at Kidderminster which the Wyre Forest Commissioning Group and Worcestershire Acute Hospitals Trust are proposing to close.

This time it’s the GP Community Unit where patients are treated as part of their care if they’ve had a fall, or are suffering from serious illness or are in need of hospice care.

These health problems cannot be treated in the patient’s home over a 24-hour period. Massive pressure would be put onto staff – the doctors, nurses, physiotherapists and social workers – who now attend the ward, but in future would be travelling to every corner of Wyre Forest, instead of being based on the ward.

The argument that the GP Ward is not up to standard is not true. The Cookley Ward was closed, A&E was closed, the Paediatric and Maternity wards were closed!

We demand that MORE SERVICES are provided and more wards provided at Kidderminster Hospital not FEWER!

I have a petition which opposes the closure of the GP Community Unit.

Anyone who believes the GP Unit should be kept open can call me 01299 402343 or email me at nigelknowlesbe wdley@hotmail.com.

There is also a petition online: http://you.38degrees.org.uk/petitions/ save-wyre-forest-gp-unit-fromclosure.
