THE first week of KAF 12 has been a great success – and the evidence, both scientific and artistic, has been gathering.

The boffins from Bio Organism Substrate Industries continued their quest to create a Success Archive of Great Britain by tapping into the stories of Kidderminster residents.

And the streets have been busy with singing, dancing and theatre in the annual event organised by Wyre Forest District Council .

The BOSI ‘ Sweet smell of success’ mobile laboratory came to town and technicians moved the ‘Success Transmitting Device’ to the Boars Head pub where you can continue to report your successes. A huge number of volunteers had their ‘success’ sampled and were given a small phial to take home as a souvenir. A team from St John’s Ambulance was on hand in case anyone felt a bit light headed after the experience!

Last Thursday’s full programme bought a real festival feel to the town. Crowds were treated to fantastic blues covers by Chicago Bytes, and then Got 2 Sing Community Choir did an upbeat set, throwing in Singing in the Rain with their umbrellas as they were caught in a quick shower.

Severn Valley Samba and Someone’s at the Door Samba Band did separate sets and then joined forces for a big finish on Weavers Wharf where the sun shone and people danced and joined in the fun. A huge thanks to all involved. Worcester Street was buzzing with artists and activities throughout the day when ‘Above Boards’ bought the street to life and passers-by relaxed in the sun, listening to live DJing and watching a range of different art works being created. The street dance workshops have been full to capacity and enjoyed by all. Dragons Den saw four great proposals of new work for KAF13, and details will be announced soon.

FLUXX Theatre will bring a unique production specially created for KAF12 to Kidderminster Town Hall tonight.

Without Planning Permission explores the theme, ‘Are there consequences of living a Life of Good?’ The audience has the chance to air its opinions on what ‘goodness’ is, and more importantly, is it possible? Tickets are still available, £4 on the door, and the show starts at 7pm. Sadly, Step Up Dance Academy has had to cancel their sessions on Saturday. The organisers apologise for any inconvenience and hope it hasn’t caused too much disappointment. KAF12 will take over the streets to play games in the spirit of the Paralympics tomorrow outside the Swan Centre between 1.30pm and 3.30pm, so come and join the fun. Then it will be the first night of BLOOM which will see Crown House undergo a transformation.

From 9pm tomorrow and again on Saturday, the entire building will be covered in projected animations which will play to a unique soundtrack created for the event. While all this has been happening Silent Hobo has been quietly painting each day, slowly transforming Mill Street Subway into an amazing artwork.
