As part of the ReWyre Initiative, Wyre Forest District Council is keen to drive up the quality of design of housing and last year members visited Portishead in North Somerset to see the widely-acclaimed Port Marine development.

It sets out good practice in housing design and layouts to be applied in Wyre Forest and it has helped in the preparation of the draft Churchfields Master Plan which is also subject to consultation.

Councillor Julian Phillips said: “There is a national push to achieve high quality design and avoid mediocrity and we are aiming to deliver great places that the whole community can be proud of.

“We are all familiar with developments that could be anywhere but we are making a firm commitment to push for development that responds well to local environments. We would like to see great architecture combined with a vibrant sense of place.”

There are three documents currently out to consultation.

The first is called the Site Allocations and Policies document and has district wide coverage.

The second is the Kidderminster Central Area Action Plan which looks at the specific challenges facing Kidderminster town centre and adjacent communities.

The third document is a specific development brief for the regeneration area of the Horsefair, called the Churchfields Masterplan.

Residents can get involved and look at these three documents.

The consultation process, which started on May 26, involves a series of roadshow events being held across the three towns.
