FRINGE events will run alongside the Bewdley festival throughout next month.

The programme of entertainment, called OctoberFest, will include an outdoor exhibition in Jubilee Gardens by Art 4 the Terrified during half term and Tru Streetdance will be at the Bewdley School and Sixth Form Centre on Saturday, October 16, with workshops in the morning and a performance in the afternoon.

A tribal rug presentation, on the history of Bakhtiari carpets, will take place at the Baptist Church on Tuesday, October 19 and there will be a lecture on the pioneers of horticultural science at the Baptist Church on Saturday, October 23.

The lecture will focus on two local pioneers, Thomas Knight, whose father was the rector of Ribbesford and Bewdley and John Williams who bred new varieties of fruit trees, including the Waterloo cherry and Pitmaston Duchess pear.

Food will be featured at the festival, with themed evenings at the Hop Pole, a seafood weekend at the Pack Horse, gluten-free fish and chips at Merchants Fish bar and a blue cheese festival at the Deli at Bewdley. The annual pumpkin festival will take place at the end of the month.

Bands will play in one of the town’s pubs each night, with local talent from Dave Onions, Tim Judson and Julia Disney, Synergie, Riding Giants and Naked Remedy.

The Girl Guides are celebrating their 100th anniversary, with the Scouts, by putting on a show at The Bewdley School and Sixth Form Centre, entitled Stagestruck Bewdley’s Got Talent, on October 28, 29th and 30.

OctoberFest flyers are available from the tourist information centre and Bewdley Library.
