I was pleased to have been asked by Wyre Forest Amnesty International to write to General Than Shwe c/o The Ministry of Defence, Naypyitaw, Burma (Myanmar) asking him to release a Buddhist Monk, U. Gambira, form prison (stamp cost 62p at Bewdley Post office). Gambira is a protest leader and is in poor health, and subject to torture. He was arrested in November 2007 in the anti-military government demonstrations.
He was sentenced to 63 years in prison. The United Nations has also taken his case up. May I ask others to do as I did and write to general Than Shwe? My thanks to Wyre Forest Amnesty.
