I am receiving correspondence from many constituents on different issues that concern them. In particular, some want to know my views on the protection of the countryside.
The protection and enhancement of the countryside is something I absolutely support. I also support a strong democratic and local Planning system to regulate development. Having served as Chairman of Planning at Town, District, and County level, I recognise the benefit of having a Local Plan with the Green Belt clearly identified. We need to protect our landscape and Sites of Specific Scientific Interest’s (SSSI’s), and National Parks etc.
Certainly, litter and abandoned rubbish must be tackled as a continuing priority. Brownfield building sites should always be used first for housing and development. I have always tried to abide by these principles and that is why I am again urging refusal of the housing development on the Puxton Marsh which comes to WFDC in March.
