A GROUP of friends and neighbours have got together to make a “tongue-in-cheek” calendar to raise funds for the Millbrook Appeal.

The women, all in their 60s, have posed semi-naked for the 2010 calendar and hope to raise more than £1,000.

The calendar, called Fun In The Park, represents different events of the year, such as bonfire night, Easter, Halloween and Christmas.

Cheryl Mackinnon, who features as Miss Pancake Day, said: “We lost two people very close to us to cancer in September.

“We were out one night and we were trying to think of something to do in aid of cancer and as the Millbrook Suite needs money we thought we would raise money for that.

“It started off as a joke that we would do a tongue-in-cheek calendar and then it sort of took off.

“We asked for volunteers and some of the ladies changed their minds but we got a few of us together and decided to go for it.

“We had to use two men for a couple of the photos.”

About 500 calendars have been produced and are available to buy from selected shops in Kidderminster and Stourport.

Miss Mackinnon, of Blackstone, said she was pleased with how they had turned out.

“I hope people like it,” said the 64-year-old. “We want people to buy the calendar because it’s for the Millbrook Suite and money is going to charity.”

She went on: “I’ve heard nothing but good things about the Millbrook Suite.

“My neighbour is going through breast cancer treatment and she’s got nothing but good things to say about them.

“They’re so caring. I think when you have got cancer you need someone there to support you all the time.

“They’re at the end of the phone all day and night. You feel as though you are not dealing with it on your own.”

The calendar is available at Bell’s Farm Shop, Cook’s Nursery and York Street Health Centre in Stourport, and Gainsborough Cakes in Kidderminster.
