A CAPACITY audience was treated to a conversation between Sir Stirling Moss and the well-known motoring journalist Simon Taylor at the Ramada Hotel on Saturday, October 10.

We were treated to fascinating anecdotes which reminded us of Stirling's illustrious career. In the early days, he raced every weekend, driving many different cars. He liked to drive cars finished in British Racing Green and his cars never carried any advertising logos. He believes that some of the problems in today's racing stem from keeness to obtain TV exposure for the sponsors.

Moss admitted that the very danger of motor sport is what attracted him to it and he believes this is the very essence of what keeps drivers on their toes.

In response to a question from the audience, Stirling thought he might have continued driving until he was about 50 if it had not been for the serious accident in 1962, which effectively ended his racing career. Since then he has continued to drive in many and varied events and is now fascinated by driving historic racing cars.

Still going strong, still competitive at 80 - what a man!
