Journalist Benedick West, a second cousin to Prunella Scales, tells me he has been touring with his play for the past four years. A series of 9 monologues, in the manner of Alan Bennett's Talking Heads, each one with a twist. And each performance with a changing cast of actors.

The first set the scene with Maureen, brilliantly played by Felicity Duncan, telling us about her perfect relationship; how she met Derek, often bumping into him in the supermarket, the cinema. But the reality is that Maureen is stalking Derek and is waiting to go into court for poisoning his cat! In another monologue posh Candida (named after the disease) gets a new female Lithuanian au pair, and falls in love. So, often risque, and with a fair amount of bad language, but the audience laughed in all the right places. However, I think they were disappointed that Miss Scales did not appear until the penultimate monologue as Gertrude, waiting for her daughter to call on her birthday, with a murderous secret to tell her.

Lots more in the offing over the next week at The Bewdley Festival's 10 Days in October. I'm off to hear Monica Weller uncover the secret life of Ruth Ellis at the Bewdley Baptist Church this afternoon, and later in the week Beverley Craven and Richard Dignance. Not sure how many tickets are still available but call Box Office at 01905 611427, or call in to Bewdley Tourist Information Centre.
