Chris Packham, television presenter, photographer, author and self confessed ‘birder’ enthralled the audience at the Ramada Hotel with his photographs, anecdotes, amazing facts and infectious enthusiasm, although his penchant for keeping dead animals in the freezer was a little disturbing!

Explaining that his interest in natural history had started at an early age, he had never stopped asking questions, generating ideas and finding out why things in nature were as they were.

He used his outstanding photographs of birds, animals, insects and plants to illustrate and develop this theme.

Not afraid to be controversial (the Dormouse, boring?), Chris challenged perceptions and put a new slant on conservation.

He ended with a plea that children should be encouraged and allowed to explore the countryside and get a passion for learning from their heart rather than their hard drive.

This was a natural history masterclass from an accomplished and enthusiastic presenter.
