A woman from Kidderminster is set to take on the London Marathon this weekend.

Wendy Garrett from Garrett Learning has been busy training for the 26.2-mile run to help raise vital funds for Samaritans.

Ms Garratt set an original target of £2,000 but has now raised £3,195 for the charity which is close to her heart.

Taking a break from her gruelling training regime, Ms Garratt also hosted a charity night to help boost her fundraising drive.

She said: "Five weeks ago, the thought of running a charity night was just an idea. Within three days, it was all organised. I spoke to a couple of people and there was a lot of excitement and support for the night.

"People and businesses have been incredibly generous by donating prizes, offering to help with entertainment and local social venue the Habberley Club offered to host the evening.

"It was amazing, not only did we raise an incredible amount of money totalling more than £1000 on the night, but what struck me was the connection of people coming together to celebrate and enjoy the evening and the friendly competition."

The Big Games charity evening was held on Saturday (April 13) and included a poker tournament, darts, a quiz, bingo, play your cards right and the generation game.

There was also a big bake off and a raffle with more than 70 prizes.

Ms Garrett added: "YouTube videos have been made by Lily, aged 8, who documented the process of baking and decorating a cake. She's an influencer in the making.

"Lily also went onto win the under-16s category and enjoyed spending all her ride tokens on Sunday which were generously donated by the Treasure Island fair in Stourport."

She added: "I will be taking every step for them."
