YOUNG boxing talent Bailey Wilding has made his coaches and family "proud" after claiming his fifth national title.

Bailey Wilding, aged 15, of Mikey's Boxing Gym in Kidderminster competed in the England Boxing National Junior Championship finals at 75kg at Loughborough University last month.

On Saturday, March 23, it was the semi-final where he came up against the London champion who had also won a national title in previous years and competed at the European Championships.

But Bailey boxed well, and just like in many of his contests, won with an impressive second-round stoppage which then sent him into Sunday's (March 24) final.

Bailey, from Birchen Coppice, first started boxing at Mikey’s Boxing Gym when it first opened in 2015 at the age of seven.

In the final, he came up against a strong opponent from Kent.

But within the first 30 seconds of the first round, Bailey caught his opponent with a strong combination causing the referee to step in and give an eight count, with Bailey later achieving the win and his fifth national title.

Now Bailey will get to compete for his country once again in the tri-nations in Cardiff and the European championships in Bosnia later this year.

The coaches at the boxing gym said: "We are so proud of Bailey and his achievements, these titles don’t come easily and have been won previously by Olympic champions and professional world champions.

"This doesn’t happen overnight or by chance, he has dedicated himself since he was seven to boxing.

"He is in the gym twice a day 5-6 days per week and is always willing to learn from everyone he is very humble and has a lot of support from family and friends who fully support his journey, he is a pleasure to coach and looking forward to see what the future holds for this talented young man.

Bailey's mum Terri Smith said on Facebook: "It really does fill our hearts with so much happiness and pride to witness your passion, determination and hard work paying off".
