A Kidderminster parish priest was officially appointed an honorary Canon during a "joyous" ceremony last week.

Canon Douglas Lamb, who is parish priest for St Ambrose's Catholic Church and Sacred Heart Tenbury Wells, was formally installed at St Chad's Cathedral in Birmingham during the chapter Mass on Tuesday, February 6.

The celebrant was Monsignor Tom Farrell, accompanied by the Right Reverend David Evans, the Auxiliary Bishop of Birmingham, and the president was the Most Reverend Bernard Longley, the Archbishop of Birmingham.

A coach was put on for parishioners to attend the special event with the ladies coming dressed in hats for the occasion and a buffet being held at St Ambrose Parish Centre after the ceremony.

Parishioner Christine Vass said: "We are very proud of our parish priest Father Lamb now Canon. I was delighted to be a part of it, he very much deserves this accolade."

Another parishioner, Madeline Roy, added: "It was a joyous occasion with a great representation from the Saint Ambrose family.

"The food in the hall was lovely and a lot of hard work went into it.

"Thanks to Mick and Mary Preston, Joy Farmer and family as well as Rebecca Turner and Micki Day."
