The Wyre Forest community are being told to keep an eye out for a spooky resident that has been popping up around the area.

Gilbert the Skeleton has already made appearances in Worcester and Bewdley in support of campaigners who hope to raise awareness for pollution in the River Severn.

The mysterious figure is particularly protesting against raw sewage, agricultural chemicals, heavy metal and other toxins that contribute to the current state of the river.

He said: “I’m sick of the polluted state of the River Severn. I spent a few hours last Saturday helping local campaigners with a petition to clean up our river.

“We got a lot of signatures and many local people and fishermen told us how worried they were about the pollution and what it is doing to the fish and wildlife.”

From almost bringing traffic on the Bewdley bypass to a standstill to helping start conversations about cleaning up our rivers, some local residents have taken to social media to talk about the mysterious skeleton.

One Bewdley resident said: “I saw the skeleton sat on the toilet with his banner a few days ago at the end of the bypass. I have just found out that he is helping to highlight how polluted our River Severn is.

“I will do what I can to help as everyone benefits from clean, healthy rivers and streams. Long live Gilbert if that’s possible.”

Another added: “It might be too late for Gilbert, but there’s hope for future generations as looking after the environment starts locally.”
