An IT expert based in Wyre Forest is running in the Worcester 10k this month to raise money for Cancer Research UK after his mum died from the disease.

Head of sales at Kidderminster IT firm Minster Micro, Paul Taylor, has taken part in the half marathon for the past two years but wanted to test himself over a shorter distance whilst aiming to raise more than £1,000 for the charity.

Mr Taylor said: “The Worcester 10k is always a fantastic race to take part in but more importantly, it is an opportunity to raise money for such a great cause.

“Cancer Research is close to my heart as I sadly lost my mum to the illness in 1998, but also had friends who have been affected by the disease. If I can reach my £1,000 target for this year I will be delighted as it will help the charity continue their superb work.”

The Worcester 10k is part of the 2023 Worcester City Runs Weekend which is being held between September 16 and September 17 this year.

It is the city’s ninth 10k race and also sees the half marathon taking place on the same weekend.

More than 4,000 runners are expected to participate with Mr Taylor is appealing for donations to support his challenge.

He said: “I’m aiming to for a finish time of around 45 minutes. That has meant a tough training programme, but the event is only days away now and I am looking forward to it.”
