These photos are a fascinating look at Kidderminster’s connection to the 1968 musical film, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
The carpet factory Brintons, which began manufacturing carpets in Kidderminster in 1783, provided carpets for the interior floor of the famous car, as these photos from the Museum of Carpet archives capture.
Brintons rolled out the red carpet for Chitty Chitty Bang Bang - a red Palace Velvet Axminster to be exact. Owner Pierre Picton shows off the carpet as ITV recorded the action and Brinton’s fitter Nigel Dyer gets to work.
