WYRE Forest party-goers are limbo-ing up for a special Hawaiian-themed night out to raise money for the Back on Track appeal.

The event, at Areley Kings Village Hall, will feature a prize for the best costume, with hula shirts, seashell bras and traditional Hawaiian-style garlands all in the mix.

There will also be dancing to the Midland All Star band, who will play everything from Miller to Motown, the Beatles to Swing and Dixieland Jazz to modern pop.

The band has promised silky saxes, bouncing brass, raunchy guitars and great vocals, as well as first-rate Barbra Streisand and Frank Sinatra tribute performances.

Event organiser, Max Moore, vice-chairman of the Walshes tenants consultative committee, said he was looking forward to a great night on Friday, June 27.

He explained: "I wanted to do something to help the appeal and I have always loved music. I know from experience you are almost guaranteed to get a crowd with good music."

"The band are fantastic. They really encourage you to get up and dance. Everyone will have a great time. I can promise that."

He added: "Some people are going to be really brave dressing up. It is going to be that kind of evening."

Mr Moore said people should donate mainly to local causes and that Stourport Hockey Club and Kidderminster and Stourport Athletic Club were vital for the local community.

He explained that sport helped young people to develop and make friends but also gave them a sense of belonging to something greater, such as a team.

He added: "There are not enough people around to run clubs like these and the people who do run them need our support. The appeal is doubly important for that reason."

Mr Moore said there were 120 tickets available and he hoped to raise between £500 and £600 which would be split between Stourport Disabled Club and the appeal.

Tickets cost £7.50 and include a fish and chip supper. There will be a licensed bar and the dancing will start at 7.30pm.

The prize for best costume is a 24-carat gold topaz pendant valued at £150. There will also be a raffle with "quality prizes".

Tickets are available from Mr Moore on 01299 826807 and Clare Wheatcroft on 07807 213365.
