These images showcase the scale of wool production in factories in the 1920’s.

Wool is a versatile and biodegradable material and was once the primary choice for clothing, textile and carpet production. After the wool had been through the production line, any “Shoddy” waste wool would be taken from the factories by farmers and gardeners and used in their gardens to break up clay soil. This was no longer an option after man-made fibres were introduced.

To celebrate Wool Week, the Museum of Carpet will be running free spinning demonstrations from Tuesday 4th-Saturday 8th October within regular opening hours. If you are visiting Kidderminster, be sure to call in to the Museum to see the spinning wheels in action.
