THE Shuttle/Times & News Back on Track appeal has been given extra spice by the support of an award winning Indian takeaway.

Generous readers have already brought the appeal's total to more than £1,500 and while the donations keep on "cumin", people can also contribute by supporting the fund-raising brainwaves of local businesses and individuals.

The owner of Indian Style, in Comberton Place, Kidderminster, has agreed to donate all profits from next Monday night's trading to the appeal.

Food lovers are invited to "korma-long" to the family-run establishment while, at the same time, being a very real "bhuna" to the community.

One of the restaurant's speciality dishes, a "masala-vating" chicken tikka masala, is considered by the chefs to be the best bar "naan" and is available on the night.

Owner and head chef, Syed Ahmed, said: "My wife and I were very upset about what has happened and we wanted to help in any way we could."

He added: "We wanted to give something back to people in Wyre Forest. It would be a major loss to the community if these clubs were not able to continue."

Mr Ahmed explained: "My son, Maknun, is very keen on sport and has made me realise how important sport is to young people.

"We need more children involved in sporting activities, both within Wyre Forest and the country as a whole.

"It increases their confidence, boosts development and gives them focus."

Mr Ahmed runs his restaurant with his three brothers, Arshad, Imad and Fahad, who are all behind the appeal and have agreed to work for free on the night.

Mr Ahmed himself has helped raise money for the community before.

When he owned Cookley Tandoori, he donated all of one night's takings to Cookley's 2001 Christmas lighting appeal.

Mr Ahmed said: "I really want us to have a good night so we can contribute a good amount of money to the appeal."

Indian Style is notable for being a "healthy living takeaway", using less oil and ghee, no preservatives or artificial flavourings and free range chickens. It has won Clean Food and Heartbeat awards.

All the profits taken between 5pm and 11pm will go towards the appeal. The full menu will be available. To place an order, call 01562 750004 or 01562 750005.

l Generous readers have so far contributed a further £520 to the Back on Track appeal, taking the total to £1,520.

Sue Saunders, secretary of Kidderminster and Stourport Athletic Club, said: "It's a very good response. It's nice to see that people are giving to a worthwhile cause."

Mark Harradine, chairman of Stourport Hockey Club, said: "It's very encouraging that people recognise the need to get our junior section back up and running."
