A SUMMER fete raised £3,500 for local charities upon its return to Bewdley.

Around 400 visitors enjoyed stalls, a tombola and an array of games at Button Oak Summer Fete on Saturday, August 13, as it returned to the town for the second year running.

Money raised at the event, which is organised by Bewdley Rotary Club, will be split between their chosen charities during a cheque presentation at Pines Golf Club on October 6.

Bob Hill, from Bewdley Rotary Club, said: "It was really successful day.

"We had a raffle with a first prize of a London Theatre Break which was won by Julia Hill, we had stalls, a tombola, and West Midlands Taekwondo held a few exhibitions.

"We also had an entertainer and a classic car show amongst others.

"Overall we have made £3,500 which will be handed out to a series of local charities."

President of Bewdley Rotary Club and Bewdley councillor, Derek Killingworth, formally opened the day alongside Councillor John Beeson.

But despite its success, organisers are still scratching their heads over the mysterious disappearance of nine A4 signs advertising the event, after they vanished on August 9.

Mr Hill added: "We are still without our nine signs which were removed.

"We had to replace them which took a cost out of our charity takings. We do not know who took them or why they would take them, but we would like them back."
