A FATHER and son team from Abberley are taking part in a gruelling cycling challenge between the UK's two furthest points.

Ian and Dan Juckes began a personal fundraising challenge to cycle from Scotland to England on Tuesday, July 26.

The 950 mile journey is scheduled to take 15 days, with the pair riding 50 to 70 miles per day.

The pair have been training in recent weeks to prepare them for the trip, which will see them going over many tough hills.

The pair have named themselves Team Jukes and are following a course mapped out from advice from friends and colleagues, travelling mainly on cycle routes and B roads.

Ian said he had an ambition to complete the course for many years and when Dan, who is now 15 years old, expressed an interest, the trip was soon booked.

Ian runs his own business, Juckes of Worcester Ltd, while Dan is a student at The Chantry High School in Martley.

Dan is also a keen sportsman spending a lot of his free time playing football for his team, The Oldbury Tigers, and hopes the fitness he has built up will stand him in good stead for the cycle ride.

The plan is for friends and family to greet Ian and Dan at the Land's End finish line which, if all goes to plan, they will reach on Tuesday, August 9.

Money raised is being donated to two charities - Cancer Research UK, which funds pioneering research to find a cure for cancer, and Little Hearts Matter, which offers support to families at the point where a single ventricle heart condition has been diagnosed.
