TWO fundraising events will take place in the summer to raise money for a local charity for bereaved families.

Josh’s Prayers Charity was set up to help bereaved families with the financial side of funeral costs when a loved one has passed away.

The organisation was set up by the parents of Josh Jones, an 18 year-old trainee mechanic, who was killed when a car fell on top of him.

The group provides grants to people in order to lessen the burden of burial or cremation arrangements at a difficult time.

On Saturday, June 6, the charity is hosting a Charity 80’s Boogie Night at the Worcester Whitehouse Hotel. Tickets are £20 per person to include a buffet, with £10 of this going to the charity.

Kenny Cummins, vice chairman for the charity, said: “We are hoping to raise at least £1,000 on ticket sales and we are also looking for companies to sponsor a prize for an auction we will do on the night to raise more money.”

The charity has also planned a day of family fun and live music in the Severn Meadows, in Stourport on Saturday, July 18. The event will take place on what would have been Josh’s 19th birthday and will raise funds for Josh’s Prayers’ work with other bereaved families locally.

Stephanie Jones, Josh’s mother, said: “This event will help us to spread the word about what we do and who we are trying to help.

“Our organisation provides financial assistance to bereaved families, meaning they don’t have that added pressure or worry.

“We are still looking for stall holders for the event. We are looking for any kind of stall, whether it be crafts or charities looking to get themselves out there.

“It looks like we are going to have a number of visitors so it would be a great opportunity.”

The fundraising and awareness event will feature children’s entertainers, fire eaters and puppet shows during the day and four live bands in the evening.
