WYRE Forest MP Mark Garnier has welcomed new figures showing that the Conservatives’ Help to Buy scheme is helping families to achieve their dream of buying their own home.

The scheme now makes it possible to get a mortgage for a house with only a five per cent deposit.

In total, 118 people have been able to access an affordable mortgage in Wyre Forest. Sales nationally are highest in the cities with one of the largest uptakes in Birmingham. Nationally, 73,000 people have been able to buy homes using the scheme.

The scheme has three different options and the Equity Loan stream of Help to Buy will now be extended to 2020, which will help 120,000 more people. This stream applies to new homes and means that with a government equity loan people need only pay five per cent for the home and can apply for a 75 per cent mortgage.

Mr Garnier said: “Home ownership gives important financial security, like a pension or investment, for people’s futures.

“With house building at its highest level since 2007and Help to Buy making owning a house a reachable dream, I am pleased that many in Wyre Forest are benefitting.

“I’m currently also looking into ensuring that disabled access to newly built homes are correctly installed. Help to Buy should give all that need it the opportunity to own their own home.”
