THE race to find The Shuttle’s Sports Personality of 2014 could not be closer.
As this week’s edition went to press, three of the five on the shortlist are virtually neck-and-neck.
Kidderminster and Stourport AC’s Katie Lambert and Stourport boxer Jerry Mongan are locked on 30 per cent of the vote.
Close behind, Paralympic swimming hero Claire Cashmore has 29.
Samurai Judo Club veteran Paul Jones and gifted young golfer Emily Price both have five per cent.
It has been an excellent year of sporting success in Wyre Forest.
Cashmore won her first individual gold medal at the IPC European Championships.
Teenage hammer thrower Lambert has had a breakthrough year at national tournaments.
Jones became the first person from the district to obtain his judo sixth dan.
Mongan also had a brilliant time in the ring, taking the National Schoolboys title and European bronze, while Emily Price stormed to victory at the English U15s Open.
There is still plenty of time for our readers to vote.
The deadline for this year’s competition is midnight on Sunday, January 11.
It couldn’t be simpler to vote. Simply go to kidderminstershuttle.co.uk/sport/sportspersonality
