SOAKING scouts participated in a freezing fundraiser yesterday evening.

Members of Areley Kings Scout Group completed a mass ice bucket challenge and raised money in memory of Stourport teenager Josh Jones who died in a tragic accident in May.

The drenched young people nominated Chief Scout Bear Grylls to take on the challenge and get behind Josh’s Prayers, the organisation set up by Josh’s parents to support other bereaved families throughout Wyre Forest.

Rob Jones, Josh’s father, is a scout leader in Areley Kings and his fellow volunteers and children from the group wanted to support his charitable venture.

An adult who introduced the wet and wild mayhem said: “Our leader Rob and his family tragically lost a son in an accident a few months ago so we are doing this - an ice bucket challenge – to raise money for the organisation set up in Josh’s name, Josh’s Prayers.”

Various other fundraising events have also been organised to raise money for Josh’s Prayers.

On Saturday, September 20 a fishing competition will take place at Wharton Hall Farm Fishery and on Sunday, September 28 a scooter and trike run will happen in Stourport.

Adrenaline-junkie Macauley White, a close friend of Josh, will jump out of an aeroplane in a tandem skydive on Saturday, September 27 while another friend Jay Round will complete a five kilometre sponsored run.

Brad Owen, who has helped organise many of the fundraising events, said: "Josh's Prayers is going really, really well and we are now close to our initial target of raising £5,000.

"We have had lots of support from the public and we are very grateful."
