WOLVERLEY Allotments Society has signed a lease with Wolverley Parish Council for a two-and-a-half acre plot to develop into a community allotment.
The plot, between Fairfield Lane and Lowe Lane, has plans to include an area for Wolverley Sebright VE Primary School, a communal area, orchard, wild flower meadow and about 40 allotment plots.
Although the site is not yet finished – parking spaces, boundary fencing and a mains water supply still need to be installed –more than half of the plots have been allocated and should be ready for planting in spring 2015.
Jenny Bull, society chairman, said: “This should be a valuable resource for the communities of Wolverley and Cookley.”
The project comes as a result of the Localism Act which allows district councils to transfer assets, including land, to the community via parish councils.
The society is also looking for people who can offer help, support or advice.
