Bewdley Festival audiences are always ready to enjoy themselves and what a great night they had with The Manfreds on Saturday 8th October!
The promised evening of hits, jazz and blues was delivered in full by six musicians at the top of their game: Mike Hugg (keyboards), Tom McGuiness (guitar) , Rob Townsend (drums), Simon Currie (saxophone and flute) , Marcus Cliffe (bass) and Paul Jones (harmonica and vocals).
We were treated to jazz and blues of a very high standard and even heard some forgotten B sides.
The audience roared its approval, and roared the choruses of some of their favourite old hits. Numbers such as 'Pretty Flamingo', 'Sha La La',' Mighty Quinn' and Paul's favourite 'Oh no, Not My Baby' have never sounded so good.
Exciting as the other musicians were it was inevitable that the lean, athletic and ever youthful Paul Jones took the spotlight.
Charismatic as always, his voice seemed better than ever and his harmonica playing is astounding. No wonder that at the British Blues awards 2011 he was named Harmonica Player of the Year for the second year running.
If you weren't there, you missed a treat. Thank you, Bewdley Festival!
